This is really spectacular when you look at other forms of "embodied energy" and quantify their energy to the energy returned.

The materials used in photovoltaic panels are not radioactive, do not off-gas, are 80% recyclable at end of use, and require minimal mining. To put this main resource that is used in PV into perspective, one ton of silicon will produce the same amount of power as 500,000 lbs. of coal.

Photovoltaic systems today have overcome a number of hurdles to become completely safe, reliable, and of proven value. Every testing, licensing, and regulatory agency have given the PV industry the legitimacy of providing cost effective power for any level of use. And today, with many subsidiaries, coalitions, and programs the industry of solar electric is reaching people in need, as a whole. The investment of solar electric power will show in time to be an enrichment of life in general.
